Vintage dream.

August 25, Middlebury.

Yesterday I passed the opportunity to buy a vintage Schwinn bike, cerca 1960, for next to nothing, because I thought Fridman would be mad, seeing that we've become the traveling circus hoarders with our weekly garage sale pilgrimages, and that there is reasonably no more space in the trailer to put anything, much less a bike.
I have now become obsessed with that bike, beautiful that it was, complete with a front light and a wide, cushy seat, and it is this guaranteed that, no matter how many yard sales we visit now, no matter how much I search, I'll never find another one like this.

that's too bad about the Schwinn

probably could have made a few hundred dollars selling a model that old in good condition

Don't feel bad about being a traveling circus hoarders. My dad and mom did the samething when they were on the road. I find thing all over the place!

Ah, the one that got away. :(

A few months ago hubby and I hit a bunch of yard sales, and at one I picked up some fabric and curtains, and looked and held, twice, an ancient baby doll made of plaster composite. She had rheumy eyes and there were pieces of plaster missing and her pinky fingers had been knocked off, but she was absolutely precious, in a very old and thin batiste gown with ruffles and incredibly delicate lace. I put her back in the box and walked away.

That night, I couldn't get her out of my head!! I had found the yard sale through an ad on craigslist, so I went back to find the ad and sent an email and crossed my fingers - I wanted that dolly! Turns out a neighbor had posted the ad for the two sisters who had the sale, and she checked with them and then gave me their phone number. I called and went back and got that baby for $5.

It's the first time I've ever gone back for something I let "get away." Your Schwinn sounds like a dream (wide seat caught my eye!).

Very nice indeed.
The thing that kills when you let something like this pass, is that it was unique and can never be found again. No going back to the store.
For $15 that bike was a rare find.

Indeed, Valerie. I'm sorry it was the one that got away. :(

Only it didn't get away, I let it pass... :-)

There was that fifties dinette set with the boomerang pattern.

Oh it hurts to think about.

I feel your pain.

Rose, whose ideal bike is a vintage Schwinn stingray, in orange.

...but would love 1950's red phantom.
