Little Peruvian.

August 13, Breckenridge.

August 13, Breckenridge.
Shortly after Nicolas was born his maternal great-grandmother sent us a gift from Cusco, in the Andes region of Peru, where she has lived all her life. It is a traditional hand-woven shawl that she had specially ordered for us. An inscription weaved on it reads: "Recuerdo de Mama Erma."
She recommended in a note that I try it to carry Nicolas around, the way Indian women do. Unfortunately my Peruvian husband lacks considerable knowledge of his heritage (or maybe not, since he's also a Latino man) and was no help to me in mastering his people's baby-carrying technique.
Fridman has never met his maternal grandmother, nor has he been to Cusco, where his mother grew up. Neither his mother nor his grandmother have seen the boys.
