Texting Crystal.

July 8, Granville.

Crystal is her best friend. She works in another circus and she hasn't seen her in a year, but they text all the time.

With Zefta.

July 8, Granville.

Zefta shares the bunk bed room with Delena now that her twin brothers are gone and so is Tatiana. They bicker.
I love Zefta, says Delena.

A day in the life of Delena (almost.)

July 8, Granville.

Delena let me shadow her on and off during the day and this is what I glimpsed of her life.

Chez Brian.

July 8, Granville.

The cookhouse truck didn't make til mid-day so Brian had to improvise lunch from his trailer - voila, "Chez Brian." There were sandwiches and watermelon all around.

Here are my grandkids, said Susana.
From left, Tatiana's ultrasound picture (dont' know yet whether it's a boy or a girl; if it's a boy it will be another Nicolas,) Elijah, Maximiliano's son, Jasmine, his twin brother Emiliano's daughter, who's three, Argio, and Allyson, the now five-year-old daughter of Karen, the eldest of the Fusco siblings, and her husband, Raul, whom we worked with at Circus Chimera.

Brian in the kitchen.

July 7, Berlin.

It's hot as hell in here, said Brian when I went to get dinner.
He and the rest of the cooking team, Mary Carmen and Sister Jo, are braving oven-like temperatures in the kitchen but you wouldn't know it.

The pool.

July 6, Chatham.

Heat wave.

July 6, Chatham.

We're suffering under a heat wave that has much of the East coast sweltering.
Zefta and Cathy improvised a sliding pool in one of the tarp they were washing, the Poemas took out the kiddie pool, the kids were in it all day, as if it didn't feel like a hundred degrees in the shade.

Martincito.

July 5, Copake.

Martincito, Martin's son, joined us about a week ago in Berkley, Massachusetts, to be with his girlfriend, Delena.
I remember him from when I joined Fridman on the road with the circus five years ago. His father, Martin, whom I met at the same time I met Fridman, at Carson and Barnes, and who is married to one of the Cavallini daughters, had hired Fridman to perform with him and his family as they first played dates with the Hanneford Circus then toured with the Tarzan Zerbini Circus. Martincito, or Little Martin, as he is called to distinguish him from his father, was a shy, lanky adolescent. I remember his father's constant admonitions as the family practiced, how he took it all without a word, how fragile he seemed. He still is a self-effacing young adult but he has also grown into a tall, muscular athlete.
He and Fridman have been practicing together. He showed me his scars.

July 5, Copake.

From my friend and fellow photographer Mary Beth Meehan, who came to visit a few days ago and renewed my passion for our craft, I stole the idea of documenting the spaces people inhabit. I am calling the series "Interiors" - even though these are not houses in the common sense of the word, they are our houses, in the most common way of every day chores.
I started today with Lucky Eddie and Miss Vickie's trailer.

Fourth of July.

July 3, Dalton.

Fourth of July BBQ at the circus today, with circus fans from the Lions Club joining in, and games organized by, of course, Carolyn.
Mike was in charge of the fire; he and Pat joined us again two days ago.

Full house.

The Dalton Lions Club gave a lunch for the circus today.

Recycling.

July 3, Dalton.

We're still doing it, and so far not once have we had to dump all the water plastic bottles, cans, cereal cardboard boxes and mounts of paper in a trash. Ever since we arrived on the East coast there have been days after days where there were recycling bins on or near the lot.

Fridman had to drive a truck here last night (the generator truck is down) and the trip being almost a hundred miles spent most of the night on the road. He made up for the lost sleep this morning.
